With two lovely restaurants and a number of beautiful private rooms to choose from, we can assist with planning your celebration; you can be confident your party will be perfect, right down to the last tiny detail.

A special note regarding wedding anniversaries - with many families (including especially now previous Balbirnie brides and grooms!) wishing to return to Balbirnie over the years, we would be simply delighted to assist with your special day. We cannot even begin to convey how special it has been over so many years to see these celebratory occasions taking place in the house on a daily basis. So very special. And long may we continue. Menu Selection for Group Parties in The Orangery and Private Rooms

Worth mentioning, our Balbirnie house specialities  ~ our seasonal menus feature hot smoked fish from Balbirnie’s in-house smoker, our House terrine, speciality Aberdeen Angus beef steak, and of course Balbirnie’s homemade ice creams, all made here on the premises (and available to purchase to take home too). Delicious!

As well as a selection of set menus, The Orangery restaurant menu  is available both in The Orangery and private rooms as follows:

  • Full restaurant menu can be offered for tables of up to 12 guests
  • Restricted version of menu available for between 13 to 24 guests
  • Set menu or choice menu available (with pre-order provided ) for 25 and over guests

The Orangery Chef's Table Room

For an experience to remember, this is a totally unique private tasting room for 4-6 covers only, located directly looking into our main kitchen. Diners will be able to watch (and listen if they wish!) the kitchen brigade via a 3 metre stretch of one-way glass.

The Garden Room

Overlooking the gardens, this lovely room seats up to 20 for lunch or dinner (16-18 on one table, or 20 on two rectangular tables positioned side by side)- ideal for smaller occasions which require a private room.

The West Room

Again overlooking the garden lawns, The West Room seats up to 44 on round/rectangular tables or up to 24 on one large rectangular table.

The Ballroom

The Ballroom was built as our purpose-built largest event room in 1999. It has been designed in keeping with the old house and with Georgian arched windows around the room, the room is flooded with natural daylight. This area can seat up to 216 for lunch or dinner and up to 156 guests if space for a dancefloor/band is also required.

The Orangery

This is our main restaurant which can also be reserved for private events, accommodating up to 80 for private and corporate gatherings.  The Orangery is a fabulous room to host an event, with floor to ceiling lunette windows, a glass roof ceiling and is sumptuously decorated in shades of silver, copper and chocolate.

The Bistro

The Bistro is our alternative restaurant at Balbirnie, offering a more casual dining experience with a relaxed and informal ambience in an authentic Bistro style setting. The Bistro can seat a maximum of 42 guests.


As described above, we have two quite different restaurants at Balbirnie, namely The Orangery which offers a more formal dining experience, and our Bistro which offers more casual dining. We are delighted to cater for group bookings within both our restaurants. Additionally, both restaurants are also available to hire on a private basis - The Orangery for up to 80 and The Bistro for up to 46. The Bistro is simply perfect for birthday parties and celebrations  - available to hire privately for 30 adults guests and over so do get in touch if you think we can help!

Brand new and by very popular demand we are now very proud to introduce Balbirnie's Pop-Up Bistro Deluxe!

We are now able to convert a section of Balbirnie's existing Business Centre, into an evening Private Dining Room within which we can offer our restricted Bistro menu, for up to 24 guests. The dining room itself is candlelit and equipped with low level contemporary mood lighting, dark copper blinds, background sound dock (bring your own tunes if you so wish), and for clients who are Ipad or laptop equipped, we offer the scope to use the room's audio visual surround system, to project for example, some special family memories ... or in business terms, some corporate highlights. (there is currently no room hire charge for the Pop-Up.)

We highlight that the Bistro Deluxe chairs are wonderfully comfortable. Magnificent chrome framed Boss design with Andrew Muirhead soft Scottish chocolate leather. The room itself offers scope for linen-clothed rectangular tables, and as we are deluxe - crisp linen napkins of course!!!

The Bistro Deluxe restricted dinner menu is priced for launch at outset with phenomenal value, at £25.00 per guest for 3 courses. Alternatively, we can price dishes individually. The menu offers a great choice, with 6 starters, 6 main courses, 5 desserts or cheese (always featuring a steamed mussels starter, steak frites main, and Creme brulee dessert - our House favourites!). We would additionally mention, if coffee is desired, we serve at the table.
