The surrounding area provides a plethora of interesting drives rewarded with quite beautiful scenery. The picturesque and quaint fishing villages along the East Neuk coast offer a delightful tour with the opportunity to also visit the world famous town of St. Andrews.

Balbirnie is ideally situated and easily accessible to explore Scotland's main towns and cities. Thirty minutes away is the beautiful capital city of Edinburgh, with its many facets of the arts, theatre, music, attractions and excellent shopping facilities.

Also thirty minutes away are St. Andrews, Perth and Dundee. In particular, the historic town of St. Andrews with its world class golf courses, its beautiful beaches, and its quaint meandering streets filled with little shops is definitely worth a visit. The cosmopolitan city of Glasgow and its superb shopping and cultural attractions can be reached in seventy minutes.

· Historic houses and gardens - the Royal Palace of Falkland and gardens (the surrounding village of Falkland is equally pretty), Kellie Castle and gardens, Hill of Tarvit Mansionhouse and garden, Aberdour Castle

· Trips - the East Neuk coast of Fife with its picturesque fishing villages and invigorating coastal walks, the historic university town of St. Andrews, the Secret Bunker in Crail, a boat trip to the Isle of May nature reserve which leaves from Anstruther, a boat trip to the castle on the island of Loch Leven by Kinross where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned, a boat trip to Inchcolm Island to see the old Abbey and watch the seals -departing from North Queensferry, a drive to the 16th century cobbled village of Culross to experience life as it would have been centuries ago (visit Culross palace and the town house), a drive around the pretty Howe of Fife which is scattered with pretty villages including Ceres, Dunfermline Cathedral

· Walking - in Balbirnie Park, the Lomond Hills, the Fife Coastal path, St. Andrews beach (where the famous Chariots of Fire scene was filmed!), Kingsbarns beach, and also the many foot paths which run between villages around Fife

· Animal centres - Deep Sea World, The Sealife Centre and The Scottish Deer Centre

· Perthshire - quite amazing scenery of rolling hills, mountains and rivers. Visit the House of Bruar near Pitlochry, Scotland's most prestigious country store - selling the best of Scottish produce, gifts, cashmere, knitwear and country clothing. Stop in at Blair Castle on the way and take a walk up the Bruar Falls.
