christmas breaks

Balbirnie House, as one of Scotland’s most historic and important grade A listed mansions, has hosted some wonderful festive celebrations over the last 232 years and this year will certainly be no exception.

The house is quite magnificent in December, with beautiful traditional Christmas trees, halls decked with bows of holly, lovely decorations, and trees outside covered in fairy lights.

Your stay can be as relaxing or active as the mood dictates - a leisurely stroll in the park, a morning’s golf, an afternoon’s drive to St. Andrews, or just browsing through the shelves of the Old Library, relaxing in front of the fires, with possibly the clink of a decanter of port….

Should you be feeling a little more energetic and wish to explore the area, or participate in some sporting activities during your stay, we would be delighted to suggest some alternatives.

ITINERARY

Our residents’ itinerary over Christmas is a very relaxed affair……

CHRISTMAS EVE

Upon arrival on Christmas Eve, settle into your room and then enjoy afternoon tea, served in The Drawing Room.
From 7.30pm onwards we will be serving a welcome festive cocktail and canapés to our residents, while the local Choir creates a wonderful Christmas atmosphere in The Long Gallery.  The festive celebrations are continued with our feature four course dinner in The Orangery, with choices of some of Balbirnie’s favourite ‘signature’ dishes from the last 12 months.
Afterwards, you may wish to attend the midnight service at the local Markinch church and enjoy mince pies and mulled wine upon your return.

CHRISTMAS DAY

After breakfast and the excitement of opening presents, you may wish to take a stroll in the park to prepare an appetite for lunch!  An outstanding Christmas Day lunch will be served and you will have a variety of choices, including of course traditional roast turkey with all the trimmings!  Thereafter, you can look forward to a very relaxed afternoon, reading or playing chess for example.  Just enjoy the day.  For any children attending, Santa will make a guest appearance in the afternoon.  For Christmas Day Dinner, we will be serving a delicious hot and cold buffet in The Orangery.

BOXING DAY

Boxing Day is again a leisurely affair, with a late breakfast being served in the Orangery. Today provides the opportunity for guests to have an afternoon out, perhaps to the East Neuk or St Andrews.  For those who are a little more adventurous why not join in on the traditional Balbirnie Treasure Hunt and possibly win a Magnum of Champagne!   Dinner this evening will consist of a special 4 course ‘Classic Scotland’ menu.
On the 27th December guests depart after breakfast.

ITINERARY

Our residents' itinerary over New Year is a very relaxed affair….

31st DECEMBER ~ HOGMANAY

Upon arrival on the 31st, settle into your room (arriving from 2pm) and then enjoy afternoon tea with a welcome glass of bubbly, served in The Drawing Room.
For the evening's celebrations, enjoy our magnificent "black tie and ball gown' Grand Hogmanay Ball and welcome in the New Year in real style. Champagne and canapés will be served at 7.00pm, with the meal itself commencing in The Ballroom at 7.30pm. The evening's entertainment includes both a band and resident DJ to ensure the music carries on into the night. Our superb showband "Callanish" will play a super mixture of both traditional Scottish ceilidh music and also some modern popular music. A glass of champagne and Balbirnie's piper welcome the New Year in at midnight, and dancing continues until the wee small hours of 2am, at which time Scotch pies are served – delicious at the end of the night! We usually have about 150 guests attending The Ball and seating is on tables of twelve, with our residents usually sitting together. Every year the ball proves to be a tremendous success – a truly memorable evening.

NEW YEAR'S DAY

New Year's Day is again a leisurely affair. We have a grand gala New Year's Day buffet today included in the package, a real feast to start the New Year! Thereafter, why not join in the fun and work off some lunch before dinner! We have the annual Balbirnie Treasure Hunt around the park with the chance to possibly win a Magnum of Champagne.
Dinner this evening, served from 7.00pm onwards, will consist of a 3 course relaxed and informal menu.

On the 2nd January guests depart after a leisurely breakfast.

One night stay priced from £240 per person (arriving 31st, also includes gala buffet lunch on 1st Jan)
